“Lavender” for Alexis.

Hello everyone! Say hello to Lavender.

© April Alane 2012

Lavender is a part of my girls collection. Commissioned by a lovely lady, Lavender is a design to compliment my Forgotten Crab-apples piece.

This design represents sorrow and a reflects a bit of sadness. Not only is she influenced by Celtic symbolism she is also strongly influenced by floriography, like most of my girls.

Both designs will be used for tattoos for Alexis that her tattoo artist will modify to his or her comfort.

This finished tattoos -hopefully- will be shown on Facebook

While I am on the topic of commissions and tattoo designs, Alexis has paid for both designs for her and her artist to use.

Finding the right tattoo artist is KEY to duplicating my work. While it would be nice to simply walk in to a shop and say “Hey you there! tattoo this on my body!” it doesn’t really work that way. Every tattoo artist has his or her own style so you should look for and artist that is fantastic with portraits.  Do some research, remember it is forever.

As I do appreciate when people use my illustrations for a tattoo it does raise the question of “stolen work”. I take it as a compliment always and forever first (truly I do!  “Can I get your artwork permanently on my body?” Uhh! yah! What an honor!) however in order for me to keep creating lovely designs for you all I also need to help keep the art alive.

If you would like to use a design or have some ideas of your own please feel free to contact me! I would love to hear  from you. And also take a look at my shop!

Thanks everyone and have a great night!

Darwin’s Daughter.

This is my new addition to my girls collection “Darwin’s Daughter”, I named her Cheli.

I have been asked by many to create a mermaid and this is what I came up with.  Ok so Cheli is not really your typical mermaid illustration but I enjoy the way she turned out.  I got whisked away on the classic story of the siren pining to be on land but with this illustration it dabbles with the thoughts of evolution as well. Like her sisters she is strongly influenced by floriography and symbolism. The Chelindonium plant in the lost language of flowers means the joys to come and compliments the Angraecum sesquipedale plant ( Darwin’s orchid) that represents hope.  The very suggestive Japanese flying fish is a symbol of time and stages of evolution. This being said Cheli I feel is the classic story of  The little mermaid with a scientific twist.

Cheli, will be available on Etsy very soon but in the mean time check out her sisters and other prints!

Have a great night every one.
