Craft fair scare

Last Saturday, September 8th was like any other craft show morning. It was a beautiful day with warm temperatures, a cool breeze and a sunny crisp blue sky, perfection craft show weather.

I had my things all nicely set up as normal with the help from my wonderful both babe Malarie. Her also once being a crafter she knew the scoop on how to get things done.

We even made a grasshopper friend who hung out with us for a while. I named him Jasper.

So having a moderately paced day in the sunshine with new and old friends things were going quite well!

Word got around that a storm was a’brewin in the north west and they were getting pretty heavy so our wise and wonderful craft show leader told us to pack up an hour early. We did so like some of the others since the day was winding down. The sky was still beautiful in front of us but little did we know behind us and the tall buildings the sky was black and ready to burst.

Having most of my things packed and stacked all that was left to do was put the tent down, fold chairs and tables, take down the Jackalope of the easel and tuck away a few odds and ends. With Malarie keeping an eye on things I decided to go get the van from the other side of the block and with that thought the winds started to pick up and it started to drizzle. I got in the van and turned the corner and in a blink of an eye the old dusty van shook, the wind turned violent, the sky cracked open and it poured.  I turn the one last corner and  looked over at the fair to find my artwork and tent along with 30 some other craft show displays on their sides and blowing away. It was tragic.
Frantic, I did the best I could with the help I had to save as much as I could of my display and my craft show neighbor Melanie from Grey Moggie Press who was doing the show alone. We kept a light heart about the situation that is every crafters worst nightmare.  But like every situation, it could have been worse. Luckily no one got hurt in the storm that sent crafts and debris flying at high speeds, the storm that damaged and ruined thousands of dollars worth of handmade items and display set ups. But though expensive and heart breaking things are replaceable live are not.

Well mother nature… you can go suck and egg! Because this weekend I and my crafty friends are back at it again! It will take more then a freak -almost- tornado to hold us back! I will be having a discounted damaged section in my -bent-booth. After doing damage control Saturday night and Sunday some things were destroyed but some things were just a little bent up but worth throwing away. So along with some new things, old things, a little busted things, come hang out with me and some talented people this Saturday.
